About the name
Eabha is the Irish form of Eve. It came through the Old Irish Eua from the Greek Eua and ultimately from the Biblical Hebrew name of Eve, the first woman in Genesis, so it shares its roots with Eva across Europe.

It is pronounced AY-vuh, the same sound as Ava, and is often written Éabha with an accent on the first letter. The spelling can puzzle people outside Ireland, but the sound itself is simple. Eva is the closest international form.
Eabha is one of the most popular girls' names in Ireland, second only to one other name, and it is in the top fifteen in Northern Ireland. Outside Ireland it is rare, though it appears in Scotland. It is rising in both parts of Ireland, where it has become a modern favourite.
