About the name
Scarlett began as an English occupational surname for someone who dyed or sold scarlet cloth. It passed into general use as a girls' first name in the 1930s, helped by Scarlett O'Hara, the heroine of Gone with the Wind, and has kept a vivid, colourful image ever since.
