About the name
Livia comes from Latin, the feminine form of Livius, the name of a plebeian Roman family. No agreed meaning for that family name has come down to us, so Livia is chosen for its sound and its classical roots rather than for a translation.
Read the restShow less
LIV-ee-uh has three syllables and a smooth, rounded rhythm. Lívia is the accented form used in Hungarian, Portuguese and Slovak, and Liwia is the Polish spelling. Olivia shares much of its sound, and Livy is an obvious short form.
Livia is in the top fifteen in Quebec and in Finland, and it is well used in Austria and Switzerland. Elsewhere in Canada it is much rarer. It is rising in fourteen countries, and in France it reached its peak so far in 2025, so its popularity is still growing.
