About the name

Anna reached Europe through Late Latin and Greek from the Hebrew Ḥannâ (Hannah), meaning 'grace, gracious, graced with child'. It spread chiefly through St Anne, by tradition the mother of Mary, and it is also the name of the prophetess Anna in the New Testament.
