About the name

Nina reached English in the nineteenth century from several directions, most often from Russian. The Russian name honours Saint Nino, the fourth-century saint who brought Christianity to Georgia. Its deeper origin and meaning are obscure, so Nina is valued for its history and sound rather than a literal sense.
