About the name
Erin comes from the Irish Éirinn, a form of Éire, 'Ireland'. It has been used as a given name since the mid-twentieth century, chosen to honour Ireland itself, and it carries that link wherever it goes.

AIR-in is two syllables, soft and quick, and it is easy to spell. Eryn is an alternative spelling, and Eireann stays closer to the Irish original.
Erin is most at home in Northern Ireland, where it ranks among the top twenty-five girls' names, and it also does well in Ireland and in England and Wales. In Canada it was at its height around 1980, so it is a familiar name among many of today's parents. It is easing back in most countries now, which gives it a settled, established feel rather than a fashionable one.
